Tanning
What is your skin type?
Your skin is unique…and tanning affects each individual skin type differently. It is important to understand your skin and how much melanin (pigmentation) your body naturally produces in order to have a safe tanning experience. To determine your skin type, consult the list below.
Skin Type I: This type of skin burns easily. It begins with a severe burn that peels shortly after the exposure. It is nearly impossible for this skin type to receive a tan. An individual with this skin type usually has very fair skin, red or blond hair, and/or has freckles. This type of skin is recommended not to be exposed to sun tanning. With this skin type we would recommend a tanning product such as a sunless tanning spray or other sunless tanning products
Skin Type 2: This type of skin does burn easily and severely. The skin will peel, but it does get a light tan. This is known as a fair skin type.
Skin Type 3: This skin type is known to be “Average” This skin type will burn somewhat, and it slowly tans to a light brown skin color.
Skin Type 4: This type of skin burn very little and receives a tan from light to a moderate brown.
Skin Type 5: This type of skin rarely burns and receives a tan very easily from moderate brown to a dark brown.
Skin Type 6: This type of skin rarely burns and receives a very dark tan. An individual with this skin type often has dark hair, dark eyes, and dark skin color.
PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE BEFORE TANNING
Tanning is a gradual process for most people, so take your time. Rushing for a beautiful tan may cause skin problems that can leave you unable to get a tan at all.
If you are taking medication, please consult your physician before using any tanning bed. Certain medications cause extra sensitivity to the UV light.
Also please consult your physician if you have any type of skin irritation or any other skin changes.
Always wear protective eyewear in a tanning bed. Ultraviolet light does penetrate through the eyelids.
Red Light Therapy
Studies suggest that treatment under red lights within a certain spectrum can provide the following benefits:
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
- Improves skin tone
- Heals blemishes
- Increases blood circulation to the skin
- Regenerates and stimulates fibroblast cells which creates collagen and elastin for a more youthful appearance
- Helps fade scaring, stretch marks and surgical wounds
- Creates supple smooth skin which helps produce a longer lasting tan
All our tanning consultants are trained by Sae, NTI, and Smart Tan. The salon has eight Wolfe tanning beds, which two of the eight tanning beds have facial tanners, with one stand-up tanner and one red light therapy bed.
